Painting Outside

May 2, 2017

Yesterday I went downtown to paint in the sketchbook. I did Janitzio Mexican Restaurant. This morning was so nice out that I returned to the opposite end of the block and did the Rostock Furniture front. The time it takes to paint in the sketchbook just about coincides with the time I have between potty breaks.  It sucks.

I have been painting in a small sketchbook, 5.5 X 7.5, and it is fun, but I believe I like my 7.5 X 11 better. It takes a bit longer for the larger, but I like how the sketches look.

Here is my two day effort (again, using some James Gurney technique).

I tinted the pages with casein. Mr. Gurney indicated that it would dry and, sort of, seal itself like acrylic. I must be doing it incorrectly. My gouache kept trying to mix with the casein color to give me some odd hues. My values are a bit suspect in today's effort, but it was dang nice outdoors.
